  • Google Calendar ICS

Artlink is Creative Clay's apprenticeship program that pairs artists from the community with Creative Clay member artists for six months to produce art in a variety of mediums. Teams have collaborated, shared ideas, experimented and mastered artistic skills. Artist mentors also have shared the important skills of the business of art, how to create and sustain successful careers as working artists.

This exhibit is the culmination of months of work that has produced art in all mediums. Creative Clay and the Artlink teams also collaborated with local playwright Sheila Cowley to produce “Airlift,” a 10-minute production that tells the story about a girl who is a very law-abiding citizen, except when it comes to the law of gravity. Creative Clay member artists created set design and moving set.

Made possible by funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.

July ArtWalk: Mix it Up featuring Linda M.

Join us July 13, 5-9 p.m. at ArtWalk for the opening of "Mix it Up," an exhibit by the artists of Creative Clay, featuring the work of Linda M. Enjoy music, visit our our vast folk art collection, and find treasures in our art supply store, Creative Thrift.

Linda hails from Chicago and has been at Creative Clay since 2011, or, as she expressed, “a million years.”  She is an important member of the Community Arts Program.

Linda is a dedicated artist who works in many different medias, including drawing, painting, ceramics and mixed media.  Enthusiastically, she will join a group of her peers in the studio to try something new, like paper marbling, or paper-mache.  Linda chooses “bright and happy colors,” she said, and likes to paint flowers and animals. Her inspiration and ideas come from books, her community visits to artists’ studios, galleries and museums.  “Making art makes me happy and I like to sell art,” Linda said.  Her favorite saying is, “Good thing I told you!”

In her spare time Linda enjoys bowling, movies and helping her sister at home.

Linda’s hand drawn cards, paper-mache penguins, acrylic paintings, and ceramic sculptures can be found in the Good Folk Gallery, and exhibits in the local area.  Many of her floral paintings were featured in the Spring 2017 exhibit, “Flower Power,” at the Community Café, St. Petersburg.

While ArtWalk begins at 5 p.m., we will host a "Celebration of Life" for beloved former Creative Clay staffer Mary Andrews at 4 p.m. Mary was also mother to Creative Clay member artist Carolyn A. Mary worked tirelessly for many years in her communities of Dunkirk, N.Y., then St. Petersburg, to advocate and promote causes that increased accessibility for individuals with disabilities. For more information, click here and refer to the "Celebration of Life" event on our Facebook page.

Mary's life of service as a treasured Creative Clay staffer, advocate and friend will be celebrated with July 13 with Mary's favorite people, including her children Carolyn, Janie and Timm, and her favorite beverage vodka to accompany her favorite nibbles. Honor Mary with your own memories, visit with family and connect and celebrate a life dedicated to others.

April ArtWalk: Serpent’s View: The Sharpie Drawings of Joseph (JJ) H.

Creative Clay member artist Joseph (JJ) H.’s exhibit “Serpent’s View: The Sharpie Drawings of Joseph (JJ) H.” opens April 13, 5-9 p.m., during ArtWalk.

Originally from Ohio, JJ has attended Creative Clay’s Community Arts Program since 2004. He enjoys working with Sharpie markers, creating large-scale drawings of bold and brightly-colored images.

“JJ is a prolific, accomplished and self-motivated artist whose work can be found in private collections, local galleries, the
St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) Store, and in our own Good Folk Gallery,” said Jody Bikoff, Director of Exhibitions. “He begins his process with black line work that emerges into pattern and design, incorporating human and animal figures often in a seascape or landscape. He then adds his colors, all over and inside each shape, creating a vibrating stained glass effect. His work is powerful and joyful to explore.”

JJ will be at ArtWalk to greet patrons and participate in a Sharpie drawing demonstration. ArtWalk is free and family-friendly. Visitors to our Good Folk Gallery can view the vast collection of JJ’s work and watch the process of how he creates his art, which often resembles stained glass.

Enjoy art in our Good Folk Gallery. Shop Creative Thrift, our pay-what-you-wish store for repurposed art supplies.
