An Enthusiasm For Life: Lindsay Johnson

Lindsay holds her Portrait of Todd, one of her favorite Teaching Artists

Lindsay Johnson joined Creative Clay as a Transition Student in 2008, became a Member Artist 2009, and she never looked back. “I love going to Creative Clay!” Lindsay exclaims. “I get to do lots of really fun stuff with a whole bunch of my best friends.”

But that hardly includes all her friends. When Lindsay and her group from Creative Clay are out in the community discovering a place, they haven’t visited before, Teaching Artist Lisa Glaser reports that Lindsay is the one who is most likely to know someone there. And if not, she’ll have made a new friend or two before she leaves.

A life-long resident of St. Petersburg, Lindsay lives with her mom and their dog, Ziggy, in a condominium where she knows all her neighbors. She earns spending money pet-sitting for neighbors when they are away. She is very close to her dad, her two brothers and her sister-in-law, and they all get together often.

In the studio, Lindsay’s favorite medium is acrylic paint. Her favorite subjects, not surprisingly, are people and animals, and she paints with a very distinctive style. She also enjoys working in clay, as well as the performing arts, acting in plays and films created by Member Artists.  Another of her favorite activities is visiting local retirement communities, where Member Artists make art with the residents.

Lindsay is known as the impromptu ambassador of Creative Clay, and she will happily take the lead in expressing Creative Clay’s purpose and mission at every opportunity. As Lisa Glaser tells it, “Lindsay meets people easily, and then tells them everything they need—or don’t need—to know about Creative Clay.”

When asked what her goals are for the future, Lindsay responded with her usual gusto: “I want to invite more people to come to Creative Clay for First Friday Art Market and Second Saturday Art Walk, so I can do their portraits and earn money! And I want everybody to come to Good Folk Festival at the Coliseum on November 16th, so they can see how cool Creative Clay is for me and my best friends.”

When you consider everything Lindsay is passionate about, you might say that her enthusiasm for life is, indeed, an art in itself.

Lindsay participates in an interactive project at the Morean Arts Center
