DISABILITY RESOURCES
The Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) oversees a statewide service delivery system designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities and their families. APD assists in identifying and addressing service needs while ensuring access to a comprehensive range of supports that promote well-being and quality of life. These supports may include social, medical, behavioral, residential, and therapeutic services. Floridians can access services through multiple pathways that have been uniquely designed to meet individuals in need.
The Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation provides employment services for individuals with disabilities, including career counseling, job training, job placement, and on-the-job support. The program may also offer assistive technology and related services to help individuals overcome barriers and achieve successful, independent employment.
Disability Rights Florida, founded in 1977, is the state’s designated Protection and Advocacy system, working to ensure the safety, rights, and success of people with disabilities by promoting access and accountability across key areas like health care, education, housing, employment, and justice systems, with unique authority to access agencies and organizations serving this population.
FAAST, or the Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology, is a program designed to provide assistive technology to Floridians with disabilities and their loved ones. This program offers a range of activities, including device loans, demonstrations, reutilization, and training, to ensure Floridians have access to the latest in assistive technology.
The Florida Developmental Disabilities Council works to improve the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities by advocating for policies and systems that promote independence, inclusion, and self-determination. It funds and supports projects that expand opportunities in areas like education, employment, and community living, while also bringing together individuals, families, and organizations to influence public policy and create lasting, positive change across Florida.
The Family Network on Disabilities of Florida provides support, education, and advocacy for families and individuals with disabilities, helping them navigate school systems, access community resources, and understand their rights. Through training, peer support, and outreach programs, the organization empowers families to advocate effectively for inclusive education and meaningful participation in their communities.
