Bringing Art to Life: Lawrence Jones
Lawrence holds a clay sculpture of a Cave Witch
Member Artist Lawrence Jones has been attending Creative Clay since 1999, so his presence is familiar to many who have visited the gallery when the artists are at work. Lawrence is a relatively quiet soul who finds inspiration in the characters of his imagination, and those characters lead some interesting lives, indeed. His favorite visual arts medium is clay, and his favorite subjects are the “good witches” who inhabit his thoughts and dreams.

He also has fond memories of a film he created with the late Staff Artist, Charlie Bari Bachmann, entitled “Good Cave Witches.” Eventually, he hopes to make a sequel, which he currently refers to as “More Cave Witches.”
Lawrence reports that his witches possess a set of magical healing skills that can relieve various personal and environmental diseases. His favorite piece of art is a clay figurine titled “Cave Witch.” Lawrence also creates paintings, and he hopes to do more painting in the future

Born in New York, Lawrence moved to Florida with his family when he was a small boy. He has always been single and lives independently in his apartment, with his brothers living nearby. In addition to creating and selling his art, he works part-time at Publix Grocery Store.
Lawrence advises anyone just beginning to experiment with art to start with clay. “The clay feels good,” he says thoughtfully, as he gazes at his witches displayed in the gallery. There’s no doubt that Lawrence believes that he brings that clay to life.
