Janice Day Sure is Busy
My name is Janice Day. I was born in St. Pete. I live with my auntie, uncle and grandma, plus my twin sister. I came here a few years ago when I was in the Creative Clay Transition program. In April 2025, I came back, and I love being a Member Artist.
I love to paint and do ceramics. Sometimes I go on outings. I especially love to do acrylic paintings. My favorite painting so far is one I did called “Enchanted Button Tree”, where I did the background with a night sky, and I used acrylics for different colors. Then I used a black silhouette tree, and I just added real buttons on top. I LOVE to paint!

I did a little bit of art before I came here, like in high school art class. But not much. But I loved it here ever since I came. I love helping people. I love when Kim asks me to do something; she’s like, “Hey, Janice, you want to help us out?” I say, “Sure. Why not, right?” So, I’ll just go ahead and help. One day, there was like, a lot of donations in the Thrift store (Creative Thrift). It’s in bins, like, all around, and we just, like, go through stuff and see what we do need and what we don’t need, right? Then we just take the stuff we don’t need outside and then we put it in the vans. Then they take it to the Goodwill. So now the Thrift Store is all organized.
I’m working on my skills in making construction paper art now. I’m making, like, a garland with construction paper for our party next week here at Creative Clay. Right now, I want to sell some of my art to make money. I have two (commission) checks now. The first one, I sold ceramics and greeting cards. Now this one, I sold greeting cards and wine bags. I’ve been doing wine bags since I was doing the Transition program the first time I was here.

My favorite thing to do with my auntie is to shop. We love to shop at thrift stores and garage sales and at Dollar Tree. So, I hope people will shop at Creative Clay and buy my paintings!
In the future, I’d like to make jewelry, like Coral makes. It’s really pretty, and I am a real girly girl. I love jewelry and nail polish and lashes. I love lashes. Someday, I want to go to cosmetology school to learn more about all that stuff. But I still love to paint! I hope that someday, like, I can learn to drive. I want to sell my art so I can get my own car! I want to make enough money with my art to, like, be on my own. I might do nails and lashes for more money. And jewelry, too. I could sell jewelry that I make. Yeah, and I want to have my own bank account. Someday I want to live on my own and be a professional artist!
